It's almost the end of October and I'm sitting outside in shorts working on my Supernatural scarf for [community profile] imadeathing. Not a bad day. :)

I bought supplies yesterday for my I Made a Thing project.

Public post on Ravelry here.

I only need a little of the gold and red, but unfortunately you can't get yarn cut like you can fabric, so I had to buy the whole big skein. I started working on it yesterday, and it looks okay, but I’m not entirely sold on it right now. I think I have to work it a bit more to see if how I’m doing it is going to work or not. Finished projects aren’t due until February, so I have plenty of time to start over and try different stitches if I feel I need to.

And seeing the red and gold worked together reminded me of the Iron Man armor, so maybe I’ll use it for something Avengers related after this.

I picked my prompt at [community profile] imadeathing (which I always read in my head as 'I'm a dead thing' for some reason) and now I just have to figure out how to do it. I picked Supernatural - salt for my project, and I have an idea in my head, I just need to figure out how to execute it.

Saturday I need to head out to AC Moore for supplies, and maybe Michaels, and figure out how to get started. I'm sure there will be a lot of frogging involved, but hopefully it will be a relatively smooth process. I'm not sure what I'll do with the finished product, as I don't really see a need for it down here, but I'm not going to worry about that now. Maybe I'll offer it up to someone online.

Just found out about [community profile] imadeathing, a mulit-fandom crafting fest thing. And signed up. My craftiness extends to crochet, some sewing, and little bit of paper crafting (I've made bookmarks in the past). We'll find out in a month or so if this was a good idea or not. :/

A few days ago I found a small Yankee Candle jarred candle in the attic. It had accidentally ended up in a box with other things, laying on its side. Well, we had a really hot summer in NC, and that candle was all kinds of melted and rehardened (from the recent cool temps) and deformed. Totally unburnable. Which sucked because it was almost a full candle when we moved.

So I started to think about if/how I could salvage it. Did some googling, and found out how to melt the wax and save the jar at the same time. I had some small, silicone cupcake liners that I wasn't using anymore, and decided to make little tarts for the candle warmer we have.

Pics of the process and result )

I have plans for the jar, too, but that's for another post.

My baby niece just puked on the blanket I'm currently working on. Now it smells, and I can't wash it so I rinsed it really well, sprayed it with Febreeze and laid it over the back deck railing. *fingers crossed*

I have a friend back home who collects pigs, and has a pig-themed kitchen, so I've been planning on making her a little pig for a while now. Her birthday is next month, so I grabbed the free pig pattern off the Lion Brand Yarn website, pulled some yarn from the stash, and got to work.

One of the managers at work was excited when she found out that I crocheted. She said that she loved the look of crochet, and that she still had the crochet booties that relatives in the Dominican Republic had made for her sons. Then she said that her birthday and just passed, and I said that Christmas was coming up, too, lol. She likes natural shades of greens and browns, so I picked a nice combination (I think, anyway) and a nice pattern from Red Heart. She doesn't actually know that I'm making something for her, so it'll hopefully be a nice surprise.

Forgot about these!

My niece is getting her teeth, so she's chewing on everything. I made her some soft chewtoys out of cotton yarn.

I also covered my earbuds in yarn, following this pattern. Someone at work saw my earbuds yesterday and asked if I could do that for her son's headphones!

Crocheting a bracelet using crochet thread, beads, and a teeny hook. Had to take off my glasses in order to see the stitches. I'm old. :(

Baby Bag

After my sister had her baby in January, she had a ton of crap she was hauling between her house and ours. She asked me to make a bag to hold everything so she only had to bring one bag. So I dug out some twin-sized flat sheets that weren't being used, did some measuring, and got to sewing.

Bag behind here )

Now that the baby's older, my sis doesn't need to carry as much crap (also, she left some stuff at our house so she wouldn't have to haul stuff between houses), but I'm sure the bag will get used again when the baby gets to be a kid.

We had a tax-free weekend recently here in NC, and I bought a new computer. Yay! Shiny new FAST computer that doesn't overheat! It's an HP Envy Ultrabook. The keys are a little wider spaced than on my previous computer, so there have been a lot of unexpected typos, but hopefully I'll adjust quickly to that small, minor detail.

I just downloaded Firefox, and just have to download the few other programs I used a lot, and reset all my bookmarks. I guess I can use this opportunity to pare down my bookmarks to the ones I actually use. I really should find an on-line bookmarking site. Suggestions?

The Last Run – Greg Rucka (June – July)

Yeah, not so much with the reading last month. I tried reading The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory after I finished The Last Run, but just could not get into it. All the characters annoyed the hell out of me, and I just couldn't do it. Spent a week or so on that one before giving up and starting my current book. But still, not so much with the reading.

I blame avengerkink on LJ. It's eaten my brain.

Wrote another fill for the kinkmeme, for this prompt:

I've seen a few 'Person A is a security blanket for Person B' prompts.

Now I want something where a character's security blanket is literally a blanket. A soft, snuggly, possibly pastel-colored blanket that nobody else fucks with in fear of having their throat ripped out.

This one also fills the space on my fanfic 100 table for Yellow, so yay! Another space filled!

Woobie - Clint Barton
It's little more than a scrap by now, a roughly three-by-four inch piece of faded yellow fuzz with a small bit of satin binding hanging on for dear life. )

Also here on AO3.

This makes me very leery of trying to date down here. Apparently, the south is the epicenter of new HIV infections in the US. And NC is right in there with Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and east Texas.

I didn't update my OK Cupid profile after moving down here, because I was too busy/depressed to really do anything with it. Now that I've updated and am starting to think about trying to date, this news hits.

So, most recent blood tests before first date? Y/Y?

So, yeah

I joined tumblr. Mostly because I wanted to follow a couple of comics that I really like, but also because I keep coming across links to fannish things that are fun and amusing and they're all on tumblr. So, yeah. Joined tumblr so I wouldn't have to bookmark stuff that I enjoyed.

I'm not sure what kind of content I'll post there (also, i r old and don't quite understand tumblr, get off my lawn), but if anyone is interested I'm here. Also, haven't actually posted anything yet, maybe I should do that.

Share your favorite tumblrs! Give me some recommendations!

Soooooooo, I've been hanging out on avengerkink a lot lately.

Here, have some fic. All links go to the AO3.

Section 6, Paragraph 4, Article J: fraternization - Coulson/Hill
There’s a pause on the other end of the line, and then Fury is asking for Coulson, and shit, she didn’t even look at which phone it was...

Happy Little Trees - Clint Barton & Phil Coulson
Coulson took a moment to visit his Zen Place. This guy. This guy.

Sunday, Monday, or Always - Steve/Peggy
The uniform was different - more modern - but the shield was the same, as was the way he handled it, the shift of his shoulders and the placement of his feet. It was Steve.

Inter-agency Relations - Fury/M (Judi Dench version)
On her birthday he sends Red Hots and Peeps. On his she sends Jammy Dodgers.

Grave Peril – Jim Butcher
Serenity: Better Days – Joss Whedon, Brett Matthews, & Will Conrad
Cold Vengeance – Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

Last again, but whatever, no one reads these but me so it doesn't matter. :) At least I got it up!

I bought a new bed last week. Probably the only thing I was looking forward to about the move to NC, was the fact that I could finally get a bigger bed. In my bedroom at the old house I could only fit a twin bed, because I was also pretty much living in that room, not just sleeping there. I had to have room for my dresser and tv and chair and nightstand/tv stand, and a twin was the only way to accomplish that.

But now, in the new house, I have TWO rooms plus my own bathroom. I now have one room for living in, and one room for sleeping in, and it's fabulous.

So last week I finally was able to get my 'grown-up' bed - a full-sized bed! I had bought all new bedding over the past few months, because working retail has some perks and being able to stack coupons and use them with the employee discount is one of the few. Actually, it might be the only one. Anyway, it was exciting to finally be able to put all my new linens to use!

The bed is comfy, of course, and it's so nice to have room to spread out.

Of course, now I'm kind of broke, but it's worth it.

My sister took my twin mattress and bed frame for when her daughter gets older, and all my old bed linens, but not the twin box spring which was ancient. My mom commented that she hopes my sister realizes how lucky she is, because she's received so much baby stuff for free from her friends and relatives.

Anyway, new mattress, yay!!!
